Some years ago I had my world severely altered by a person I greatly admired and deeply respected. This woman shattered the foundation of my entire belief-system by simply stating her opinion in opposition to something I believed. These were deeply rooted beliefs of mine and I was secretly resentful for years. What time taught, however, is that although this person had a profound effect on my life, she was not the villain I’d originally thought her to be. I learned, eventually, that a belief system cannot be altered without your consent and if it truly expresses who you are. And who you are changes each second. Today I am grateful to this person for opening my eyes to an area of consciousness that I've found extremely rewarding. My thoughts in this blog are for your enjoyment, never with the intent to change your beliefs. I can’t change your beliefs, only you can do that. And you will when and if they are no longer useful in expressing who you are. Ken Keyes tells us in "Handbook to Higher Consciousness" that everyone in our life is either a lover or a teacher. Lovers are those who agree with us and reflect our beliefs about ourselves and our world. Teachers are those who press our buttons, make us think and question. If they also make us feel anger or resentment, we should remember which one has the buttons being pressed! I've had many lovers and many teachers in my life, and I mentally embrace them all. I wish you as many teachers as lovers, for we need both for growth.
